Peace & Cohesion

Through our peace and cohesion initiatives, we are creating awareness and building communities’ capacity in Mombasa County to come up with ways of mitigating conflicts for sustainable peace.

This is done through interreligious and community dialogues, inclusivity and cultural diversity, empowering community leadership and youth involvement in peace initiatives, encouraging creation of safe spaces and resources for mental health.

Education

To ensure children in Mombasa County have access to quality education and to address the social barriers they face, WeRise Africa is committed in developing programs that advocate for educational access for all children.

This is achieved through partnerships with local schools and stakeholders, awareness campaigns, dialogues, capacity-building, and dedicated research and documentation efforts. Education is essential for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering future generations, as it lays the foundation for individual and community growth.

Youth & Leadership Empowerment

With young people at the heart of the organization, this pillar is dedicated to empowering Mombasa’s youth by strengthening their skills and knowledge, preparing them to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Through capacity-building initiatives, exchange programs, and the provision of safe spaces, we enable the youth to explore and develop their full potential. Youth leadership is vital for sustainable growth, as it brings fresh perspectives, innovation, and energy to shaping the future.

Prevention and Elimination of Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

By creating programs focused on prevention and elimination of GBV against both men and women in Mombasa County, WeRise Africa seeks to drive change through lobbying and advocacy, awareness creation campaigns, community education, and strategic partnerships.

Ending GBV is crucial to fostering a safe and equitable community, as it upholds human rights, promotes well-being, and enables all individuals to thrive without fear or discrimination.

infrastructure

Holistic Community Advocacy in Sustainable Infrastructure Development

This thematic area focuses on conducting oversight of infrastructure development projects in Kenyan communities, ensuring that these projects benefit the community while protecting their rights. We simplify the complexities involved in infrastructure development by sensitizing communities to understand projects like road construction and their positive and negative impacts on the community.

Our efforts prioritize the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), protection of children from Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Harassment (CSEA/H) and child labor, environmental conservation, and rightful compensation of Project Affected Persons (PAPs). By partnering with other stakeholders, WeRise Africa ensure that development projects contribute to the community’s well-being while safeguarding their social, environmental, and economic rights.

Projects

To safeguard children from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (CSEA/H) and child labor, WeRise Africa has empowered and supported community voices to address risks and emerging issues associated with the East African Coastal Corridor Development Project, which traverses Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale counties.

Promoting social cohesion and freedom of religion and belief for the youth and religious minorities in Mombasa County.

This project is supported by the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) and it seeks to engage communities during the post-electoral period especially the youth, state actors, religious leaders, women, and men by building their capacity for religious literacy, religious minority rights, and interfaith dialogue through training, interfaith dialogue, faith acts social events and the house of worship visits.
